Canadian Steam x 3 *PIC*

This morning Canada's only 3 operating CPR steam locomotives posed together just north of Toronto for a photo op jointly set up by Canadian Pacific Railway and South Simcoe Railway. Enjoy!

Hey, whats up with that red/orange box car thingy in the 2816 consist. Not a very good match? I haven't seen many photos of the train...how many cars was 2816 pulling?

Both shots were taken by our photographer, Charles Bryant. 2816 spent about a half hour at this location for pictures, then backed up about a mile and did a great runby over the bridge.

The CPR train consisted of a water tender, tool car, stage car (the red car), generator car, two coaches and a business car.

What is it that has made the CPR recognize the value of it's steam heritage? Despite the added expenses, CP seems to have embraced the fact that steam is a draw, that they need to cultivate a relationship with their public, and that they are Canada's most historically important transportation concern. The picture of these three locomotives going about their intended operation could well be lesson to Class 1's and museum partnerships all over North America. BNSF and Union Pacific are the only two remaining in the USA that aren't scared of their own heritage. CSX could well afford to rebuild 614, any of the surviving 2-8-4's, or even 1604. NS - well what can one say about NS's current administration's view of their ready steam?
CPR deserves alot of recognition and thanks for fixing up the 2816. Let's hope it's a catching fever.
