Jacobson's Latest Acquisition

Did anyone notice on Steam Central the news that Jerry Joe Jacobson of the Ohio Central has purchased ex-LS&I 2-8-0 No. 33 from the Hocking Valley Scenic in Nelsonville, Ohio? Very interesting, considering his steam program is in limbo. When was the last time No. 33 ran in regular service, and why was it sidelined?

Does anyone know if OC actually did acquire the 33? I first learned that the Jerry Jacobson planned to purchase the 33 a few months ago, but it just doesn't seem logical to carry through with it unless contracts had already been signed prior to the cancellation of the excursion program. It's pretty ironic that last week we were all begging Jerry not to sell off any equipment and this week we find that he has actually bought more!

According to my source it has been acquired by Ohio Central, but is not on the property(at least not last weekend). Jerry will simply add it to his collection of other locos stored on the railroad.

I think the last time 33 ran was in 1996. I saw it once on a Santa Train in 1988.

I had heard something a while back about OC trading the 13 for the 33 so Hocking Valley had a lighter engine that was closer to running.

Yes, I heard that same rumor, but I cannot confirm nor deny that there was a trade made. I only know that 33 has been acquired by OC. You can always contact Hocking if you want to know I suppose.
