This posted rattled a question from my memory bank. Way back in 1963 our family took a trip to Mexico with a group of Railfans. One of the guys(Robinson?) was owner or son of the owner of the Marquette & Huron Railroad. Anybody know of this guy. He would have been late teens, or early 20's back in 1963.

Bob: An interesting post; thanks. The M&HM website referenced is a little misleading on one score; locomotives 34 AND 35 were sold to the Illinois Railway Museum. And engine 34 was traded (as I understand it) for C&O Kanawha 2-8-4 #2707. The 34 in turn, ended up out east on the Western Maryland Scenic as WM #734. Engine number 35 is still at Union.

The photos on the M&HM website were interesting. There appears to be an Erie Stillwell coach "buried in the trees." I didn't see any photos of it in service on the website though so maybe M&HM never operated it. Also, the photo of locomotive 21 as being at Marquette doesn't say if it is a recent photo or not. It does appear to have some primer paint on its boiler. Finally, the combine in a couple of in-service M&HM shots appears to be ex-Chicago & NorthWestern; anyone know for sure?

The Whitewater Valley Railroad purchased the combine,ex-C&NW # 7718 and Erie Stillwell # 2331 in 1985 from the M&HM. They are both in service on our railroad. The Stillwell in the photo is not the one we purchased.

IIRC, a fellow by the name of John Zerbel (sp??) was the person behind the former Marquette & Huron Mountain tourist RR. He (along with the locomotives and ROW) had worked for Lake Superior & Isphpeming RR. Maybe it was his son you met.
