About a month ago, there was a lengthy thread dealing with materials used in late 19th century wooden cabs. There seems to be a lot of collective experience to draw upon. One thing not explored is the cost to construct such a cab. Keeping in mind that cabs vary in size somewhat and vary in materials used. What do they cost to construct assuming materials purchased at retail and labor at normal rates? Sorry for earlier screw up. Finger slippage.

I have a sad feeling that the B&O Museum is going to generate considerable data on this question over the next year or so.

We are about to begin construction of a new wood cab for Georgia Northern 107 (ALCO 4-6-2, 1911) so we should have some numbers to post here. There is a possibility we will be reusing some of the main structural members, but that decision will be made following a more thorough assessment of the remaining structure. Stay tuned.

You might try posting your question on the narrow gauge discussion board. Dan Markoff, the owner of the EUREKA, frequents that board and he may be willing to share the cost of the reporduction of the EUREKA's cab.
