| Post subject: | Where are the Golden Spike patterns today? |
Anyone know what happened to the drawings, patterns and tooling for the two Golden Spike replicas (the real 1:1 ones), once they were completed? Hopefully, they are safely stored somewhere.. Nice Golden Spike models ryarger@rypn.org |

Bob, It is standard practice for all plans used in an NPS construction pproject to be d3livered at the end of the job. The are most likely at the golden Spike NHS or at the Regional Office. As for the patterns; you have a question there? further isn't someone having the Strasburg RR Shop build a 19th century 4-4-0 from the V&T? Ted Miles ted_miles@nps.gov |

I have heard a rumor that someone out west is actually beginning to build another replica using the NPS drawings and tooling, but I really do not remember any of the specifics of the rumor. I think I heard about it at the TRAIN convention held in Utah two years ago, and I think the foundryman who gave one of the lectures mentioned it. Steve Little River Press SZuidervee@aol.com |

I belive that the project in question is in the Chicago area and the goal is to construct a replica of the Whirlwind, a sister of the Jupiter. |

The new "Jupiter" is being presently built in the Midwest and the locomotive's running gear and tender are about finished . All Built to a high standard. the boiler is designed and awaiting approvials .The locomotive's name I don't believe is decided. daug@inreach.com |

This is interesting information indeed. The Renssalear & Saratoga, a Delaware & Hudson predecessor, had a number of coalburning, diamond stacked copies of the Jupiter built by Schenectady. In fact, photos of the R&S locomotives were consulted for details that could not be seen in photos of the CP engines. Sorry, I haven't found a photo of one on the web yet. ryarger@rypn.org |

A friend of mine from CSRM mentioned the Jupiter project to me recently. Who's doing the work, and when can we expect to hear more about this project in a Rypn thread or a News Brief?
