Looks like the Friends of the Cumbres and Toltec will be operating CATS this year, barring further legal hurdles or issues: see the statement released this monring by the Friends:<p><br>C&TS OPERATING CONTRACT AWARDED TO RIO GRANDE RAILWAY PRESERVATION CORP. <p>Feb. 25, 2000 <p>At the February 24 Cumbres & Toltec Scenic Railroad Commission meeting in Alamosa, the Commission reviewed the additional information submitted by the Friends concerning their proposal to operate the railroad. Subsequently the Commission announced their satisfaction with the proposal, and intention to enter into contract negotiations with the Friends subsidary the Rio Grande Railway Preservation Corporation. The next Commission meeting is March 1 in Albuquerque, and at that time an announcement should be made about the outcome of the final negotiations. <p>
