This joint also had two BAR narrow-vestibule wood coaches (out of work service), which sat for a few years untouched, and then were sold or donated to Warehouse Point Trolley Museum, for use behind the Climax (when that was a "hot" project). The cars went (still unrestored) to Strasburg a few years ago, I think. The photos are yet another good lesson in why railroad station restaurants are not a good idea (in my opinion!). There was a gorgeous BAR wood center-door, narrow-vestibule combine at a shorefront restaurant in Rhode Island. It was not attached to the main building, it simply sat, nicely restored, on snap-track. It was "offered" about 1989. Moving it was really difficult, due to some bridge overpasses having been built since the car was moved in, and the restaurant owner gave a TWO-WEEK deadline to get it out... he needed more parking in time for summer season. So, it was bulldozed and loaded into dumpsters. The photos that one of our guys took of that were heartbreaking. hpincus@mindspring.com |
