Steamtown Excursion Lengths - DL&W Info

Hello All,

As per the previous discussions about trip lengths and such, I perused both my current track charts and DL&W timetable #86 dated 10/29/1944. So here are the mileposts, from the DL RailroadÂ’s Bridge 60 and the CP Rail connection in Scranton headed east. with existing stations and Steamtown destinations.

Bridge 60 North Leg MP 134.00

Steamtown Depot MP 133.5 (approx.)

Scranton Station MP 133.17 (restored former DL&W
Scranton Div. HQ building, now Radisson Hotel)

Moscow MP 120.58 (wooden freight and brick passenger depots, restored by NPS)

Gouldsboro MP 112.98 (restored, wooden)

Tobyhanna MP 107.67 (restored, Pocono Mt. Chapter NRHS Museum, wooden station with concrete tower)

Pocono Summit MP 102.59 (restored, used in 1987, now boarded up and decaying, concrete construction)

Mount Pocono MP 100.30 (newly constructed wooden platform in place of long gone depot)

Cresco MP 94.61 (restored, small museum, wooden)

Stroudsburg MP 81.56 (restored, wooden construction, "Dansbury Depot" Restaurant, with wooden tower and steel water tank). Actually loacted in East Stroudsburg, but DL&W called it simply Stroudsburg. Town originally called Dansbury, hence the name.

Delaware Water Gap MP 77.21 (unrestored)

Point of Gap 75.5 (approx.) No station, but is the destination of NPS fall trips.

End of D-L Railroad operated track, MP 73.75.

Things to know:

-There is a Wye on the Â“NS SideÂ” in the town of Portland, it will not be used.

- Scranton to Moscow approx. 25.8 miles RT.
- Steamtown to Tobyhanna approx. 51.7 miles RT.
- Steamtown to Â“Point of GapÂ” aka Delaware Water Gap, approx. 119.5 miles RT.
- Steamtown to Carbondale, PA (on old D&H Penn Div.) approx. 30.15 miles RT.

Dave,

Refresh my memory. The mileposts are via the Cutoff and not the "Old Road", correct?

Yes they are, North Leg of Bridge 60 being 134 miles from Hoboken and so on... I should have thrown that in there to begin with.

On the other hand, the mile references past the "old" Slateford Junction, at MP 74.27 are a bit of an anomily as we installed them in line with all the other mileposts on the "Pocono Main" for continuity sake. Hence the end of DL operated trackage at "Slate" (the NS boundry) is not really 73.75 miles from Hoboken but keeps continuity with all the other mileposts.
