A while back someone mentioned they thought the owner of ACL 2-8-0 wanted to get ridh off of her. Well, she is listed on the web at http://www.trains-trams-trolleys.com/1007.html as being for sale for $30K for the engines and two tenders.
Doesn't seem that out of line to me. Fund raising anyone? Or are there too many ACL steamers preserved to bother?
Patch
Wish I had $30k to spare; it ain't an R-1, but #712 would be a nifty engine to own. There aren't that many ACL engines left: USRA Pacific #1504 in Jacksonville, Fl, 4-6-0 #1031 at Spencer, another 4-6-0 in Wilmington, NC and I believe an 0-6-0 in Florida somewhere.
This engine was de-flued by the Rockton & Rion in the late 60's in prepration for re-fluing. Stack of brand-new 2 inch tubes sat in the shop for years, being used for fence posts, air piping, etc. I understand the shop is now gone which is a crime. It was still there in 1980 completely outfitted with steam maintenance equipment.

Wilmington & Western's 1907 Baldwin 0-6-0 #58 spent some time under ACL ownership. This after being Atlanta Birmingham & Atlantic and later Atlanta Birmingham & Coast. I guess this makes 58 the only currently operational former ACL steam locomotive.
Regards,
Jim Robinson
