Perserved Rail Equipment

I was thinking the other day while riding the bus, what's the newest piece of revenue equipment? I'm mainly focusing on locomotives, but rolling stock and structures are welcome.

If you mean newest to be preserved, we have a PCC from The Hague, Netherlands, built in 1971. I think a few Boeing LRVs are preserved (Seashore?, Oregon?) and Seashore has the SOAC "State Of the Art Car" subway car set from the early 1970s.

There is a Metroliner powered car at RR Museum of PA.

Anyone save an SPV 2000?

I assume your question means, "what's the newest piece of rail equipment officially preserved?"

It probably isn't "officially" preserved until it's taken out of service and rolled through a museum gate, but I'm told that CSX has already designated a specific EMD SD50 to be preserved with the same "DO NOT DISMANTLE" stencils used to set aside equipment destined for the B&O Museum. My memory says the SD50's were built for Chessie and Seaboard in 1983-4.

I've been told a Metro-North(NY-MTA)SPV-2000 is to be donated to a museum in Connecticut.

There are Boeing-Vertol Light rail vehicles at the MUNI Railway, the Western Railroad Museum and the Oregon electric Historical Society in Brooks.

The cars were built in like 1979/80. Car 1252 is the only piece on WRM property to be young enoug for me to have ridden it in revenue service.

Also I have ridden the Philadelphia PCCs that now run on the F Line in San Francisco in both cities.

Amtrak F-40's anybody? By they way a SPV-2000 has been preserved it is at the Connecticut Eastern RR museum.

Railroad Museum of New England has preserved the last U-series locomotive built, former Conrail U23B #2798. Unit was out shopped by GE Erie in July 1977.

The newest items at the Museum of Transportation in St. Louis are TTOX #130059, a "Front-Runner" flat with four wheels built in 1984 and MP caboose #13889, built in 1980. Our newest loco is UP "Centennial" #6944, built in 1971.
