Real nice piece about the BC&G, K&T, M&NF and Brimstone in the Sept. Trains that came to the house yesterday. Good shots of the neon sign in Stearns, Ky. at night (is it still there?), wonderful atmosphric shot of BC&G 14 drifting along with hoppers and a nice shot of Brimstone 36 climbing the hill close to the SR mainline trestle at New River, Tenn. (Gosh, that's the cleanest Shay I've ever seen!) Any how, for those of us who love that "Twilight of Steam" period known as the 60s, here's another installment worth seeing. http://nctrans.org Wrinnbo@aol.com |

And the author, Jim Neubauer, is a longtime preservationist associated with the Mid-Continent Museum. I beleive he edited their newsletter for years, and perhaps still does. eledbetter@rypn.org |

BC&G 14 sits across the tracks outside my office window in Gaithersburg, MD. Nice to see the story in Trains this month. Photo of BC&G 14

Around 1980 when she came to W&W you could poke your finger through the firebox. They must have ran her with a paper thin firebox back in her last days of steam. Tom Gears |
