True to his word in an earlier thread, Dave Lathrop has prepared for us an article describing his methods for assessing steam locomotives as restoration candidates--from a half-day quick-and-dirt approach to a full, step-by-step survey. He invites you to contribute your own comments and techniques.

Thanks Erik and Hume for publishing more of the crap I submit. I hope it may serve as a starting point for more of us to share techniques and resources.

Jack Anderson wrote wonderful articles about boilers in the age before the Big Bang for Elanor P. Maybe he can be persuaded to contribute a thought or two.........

To bad the legal end of steam can't be assessed this way!
