My friend works on the railway and he told me that Rugby station is going to be demolished. He said it was a beautiful old building.Mostly wooden. And he reckons that it's quite likely that nobody even knows about it's imminent bulldozing. He said he wouldn't be supprised if they hadn't even asked the council.Do any of you care?Shall I give up?Bye.Alex
hussy13@hotmail.com |

Alex: Apparently no one does care. But...where is this station? What is its history? Do you know?
midlandblb@cs.com |

I asked my mate in the know and he said this:
Rugby station was built in the mid 1890's.It is an island platform with bays at each end,and the thing that makes it unique is it's roof.Supported by the station buildings in the centre of the island, the central roof has girders about 60 foot long that span onto walls some 40 foot high and a couple of hundered feet long each side. The remainder of the station is roofed in a fairly conventional way' giving cover to all the platforms for most of thier 600 feet or so length. It's big,you should see it.
They should not kill it.So far they are still just knocking out the glass from the roof. The are well behind programme as the steelwork was supposed to be going now. It's not listed and the council don't seem to be interested.I've e-mailed english heritage and had no reply.

So thats the size of it.Is anyone interested now?Alex.
hussy13@hotmail.com |
