As mentioned before, the work on the 630 has slowed due to the large amount of contract work at the shop. The only other museum restoration project ongoing is the 1037, but there are a couple of private restorations being done on the property. awalker2002@comcast.net |

I am told that the failure of the roller bearing retrofit on 1702 was in carrying the lateral load imposed by the sharp curves, and that roller bearings capable of carrying the load wouldn't fit in the pedestals in the frames. If this is the case, it doesn't bode well for retrofitting rollers in old style frames. You guys have seen the wheels - what's your take on the situation? Dave irondave@bellsouth.net |
