Just in case anyone was feeling complacent or even momentarily happy..... The Director of the Virginia Transportation Museum, Kay Strickland, has resigned. For those who may not know, this is the current home of N&W 611 and 1218. According to an article in the Thurday edition of the Roanoke Times, state budget cuts were a factor in her decision to leave. The museum lost all state support in the past couple of years. I wonder where this will lead. |

Those are the things that determine a person's mettle. Some are up to the challenge and others just aren't. I wonder how much state aid the museum was getting. Perhaps the next director will be an adept fundraiser. jrowlands@neo.rr.com |

In fairness to the current director, she lead the institution through recovery from a flood, the move from their old location to the current location in the N&W freight shed in downtown, and the construction of the Claytor pavilion. I think she proved her mettle and them some already, and just needs a different challenge. eledbetter@rypn.org |
