Was wondering if and when #31 at Strasburg will be re-numbered 7312 on the cab to match the front plate. steamtrain90@aol.com |

I don't know about 31, but I do know 89 will be returned to CNR livery in a couple of months for a special photo shoot. I believe this will be a private function that had to be paid for in advance to pay the cost of changing it over. It may even be by invitation only. John Craft knows more details. k5ahudson@hotmail.com |

I would suspect that the #31 is wearing her old plate because (I believe) her "#31" plate was among the items stolen by vandals, and if I had to guess, I'd say that she'll only wear it until a replacement can be found or made. I'm sure one of the guys from the SRR crew can correct or clarify. mrwowak@yahoo.com |

As far as I know, there are no plans to put a 31 back on the front. As for when the cab sides may be done, I could not tell you. Maybe Linn can fill you in if he's lurking. eiss@nfdc.net |

Strasburg has access to the orginal plates for all their engines. Now the # plate on the tender of #31 is exactly the same as was the one on the front that was stolen so if SRC wanted to they could use that to make a copy and use as the front # plate. And if the one on 31 right now is a copy, why didn't they put another 31 #plate on the front? Just wondering As for the sides of the cab, don't hold your breath if strasburg wanted to do that it would have been done already. It's been 31 for so long why change it now? PRRsteam4lyfe@aol.com |

In February, Kurt Bell, of the Railroad Museum of Pennsylvania posted: "Strasburg Rail Road deserves a thousand thank you's for making a personal dream of mine come true--No. 31 now sports a replica Canadian National Railways number plate from her 1950s service days and will soon bear her last CNR number, No. 7312. Although devoid of her classification lights due to the recent theft, she now appears faithful to her in-service days. Her tender will remain lettered "Strasburg" though admittedly I yearn for the classy CNR crooked "square"-type herald. I don't have a digital image to share, however, she will be on the head-end of this weekend's schedule, if you wish to see the results for yourself. " I believe the plan is to restore it to this road number, but nothing else has happened yet. The numbers on the side cab of 31 are cast iron. They may have the 2 original 7's and 2's, then again they may not. They may have to be made. And maybe the Strasburg has changed their mind. As far as I know, the 7312 number plate is there to stay. I believe SRC still plans to put the 7312 raised numbers back on the cab when they have a chance. They are a very busy daily operation with many other important priorities taking precedence. Just for the record, the SRC 31 oval number plate on display at RRMPA is not owned by SRC but is on loan from a private individual (a former employee from the 1960's era) residing in the Scranton, Pa., area. The CNR 7312 plate is the original and will be returned to the railroad after the exhibit closes in December. > In February, Kurt Bell, of the Railroad > Museum of Pennsylvania posted: > "Strasburg Rail Road deserves a > thousand thank you's for making a personal > dream of mine come true--No. 31 now sports a > replica Canadian National Railways number > plate from her 1950s service days and will > soon bear her last CNR number, No. 7312. > Although devoid of her classification lights > due to the recent theft, she now appears > faithful to her in-service days.
