I was wondering if anyone has information about the rolling stock of the CK&S, a tourist railroad about 30 miles east of Indianapolis. What I'm interested in particular is their collection of electric (of course) MU cars. One, pictured below, is an apparently complete NYC MU car - probably the only one left. Judging from their website (see link below) it looks like they also have a late-model arch-roof PRR MP54, also the only one of that type I can think of offhand. Does anyone have solid information on this outfit?

An equipment roster would be nice.

Frank,

The Railroad Museum of Pennsylvania roster shows that they have something electric but not the class. It might be an M-54.

Ibelieve that their commuter fleet was much small er than the Erie/Lac cars which I see all over your roster. Too bad non of them are in an electric traction museum.

RRMofPA owns a PRR MP-54, car #607, which is actually currently in Penn Central paint. I know of ten surviving MP-54 coaches: the car at RRMofPA, three PRR cars at Delaware & Ulster, four PRR cars at URRHS, an LIRR car at Seashore and an LIRR car at Warehouse Point, but all of those are railroad roof cars. I don't know of any arch-roof MP-54's still around. If anything, the PRR MU fleet was much larger than the Lack's - I think it numbered several hundred. But, you're right that a lot fewer MP-54's were saved than Lack MU cars; this may have had to do with their condition, which in may cases was pretty bad towards the end.

Add four MP54s that the Wilmington & Western has, or had at one time. One was "butchered" in abortive attempts at either a handicapped-lift car or an open car; two were eventually put into service, and I dunno about the other one. Tom? Updates?

The Toledo Lake Erie & Western RR that runs between Waterville and Grand Rapids, Ohio, has two of the EX-NYC cars that they use as coaches.

I've seen those cars, and I have Penn Central numbers for them (does anyone have NYC-PC renumbering rosters for MU cars?). However, I think those have had quite a few electrical parts stripped off of them to make them into locomotive-hauled coaches. The car at CK&S is supposedly complete, hence it is the only one still around that is.
