More than one steam locomotive

I was wondering which US lines operate more than one steam locomotive on a daily basis. I know Strasburg, Cass & D&S generally have a couple of engines under steam in peak season. Do any others beside these three?

Mount Washington Cog Railway does too. Not sure about any others though.

I think that the Roaring Camp and Big Trees RR at Felton, CA runs two engines this time of year as well as a standard gauge Diesel excursion.

Steamtown used to have its BLW No. 26 0-6-0 running yard demonstrations while the big power (the CN Mike or the CP Pacific) handled the excursions. The 0-6-0 has been laid up for some time now for firebox work, but will return eventually.

The Cumbres and Toltec regularly has at least 3 locomotives in steam at one time. It usually takes 2 of them to get the train up the hill.

Don't forget about the folks at Cedar Point Amusement Park in Ohio. They run real steamers from the steam age. They have 4 or 5 that they can operate and often run more than one.

Speaking of theme parks, don't forget Disney World and Busch Gardens. Each has 1-4 locos running daily.

Also, what about Cass?

The Cumbres & Toltec only has one steam locomotive in operation this year, and is operating on a reduced schedule. A 2nd locomotive may come out of the shop this fall, but next year still looks like a one-locomotive season, as this year's operating locomotive needs to go into the shop for boiler work.

The reasons the railroad is in this situation are complex. The solution is the usual: money and people. There is some money available via a grant, but it's probably not enough. As for the people, the shop crew there are miracle workers, but there aren't enough of them.

The railroad is still a spectacular ride, though. And it needs your support now more than ever. So get out there and buy a ticket!

Tweetsie Railroad usually has both of their locomotives hot during the month of October. Ex-ET&WNC 4-6-0 #12 handles the daily trains, while ex-WP&Y 2-8-2 #190 is dressed up for the ghost train. Back in the good old days when Six Flags Over Georgia still gave a damn about entertainment value and ran steam, we would put steam on the backup engine as well as the regular service loco so it could be gotten ready quickly in the event of an emergency.
