 Post subject: Shortline Question
PostPosted: Sun Aug 17, 2003 5:50 pm

I have a quick question...how common was it for shortline railroads to keep old passenger equipment as outfit cars? Two examples that I know of...the McCloud River kept a combine as a section car for almost 20 years after the end of passenger service, donating the car to a proposed museum (what is now the Caboose Motel south of Dunsmuir) in 1964...and the Nevada Northern had several old passenger cars as part of their wreck train up until the time they ceased operations in 1983.

Any others that anyone knows about?

Thanks much,

It's kinda stretching the definition of a shortline but WLE inherited an office car from NKP/NW/NS and it ended up at LSRA. It was originally a tourist pullman and ended up as the office at Hartland Yard before moving to Wellington, OH. I have no idea what the origin of the car was.
