After sitting for many years on the rim of a granite quarry in Chelmsford, MA, B&M 0-6-0 #410 has been brought to Lowell, MA and cosmetically restored by members of the B&M Historical Society. The engine was replaced by a GE 70-tonner in the early 1950's, and sat rusting on a siding for over 30 years before being taken to Iron Horse Park in Billerica, MA (B&M shops), and eventually to Lowell NPS. The combine is ex-B&M as well, was modified for work train service, and saw service on the St.J & LC and also the Wolfeboro RR. Gomaco reproductions run on the parallel track in the foreground. ![]() SJHussar@aol.com |

I note on other boards that the H.E. Fletcher quarry from which the two 0-6-0s were rescued is working toward re-establishing a rail connection to the outside world. The internal railroad has always remained in operation to transport large granite blocks. I've heard that Nelson Blount attempted to acquire these locomotives in the 1960s, but was somehow unsuccessful. No. 444 (the one at Dunkirk, NY) was the Bellows Falls switcher at one time. ryarger@rypn.org |

If I remeber right, the quarry is also home to numerous wooden B&M cabooses bought cheap and used for sheds and offices. Rob |

Looking west, one of the reproduction trolley's waits to depart for the mill. Lowell MA has become quite a historic destination. ![]() SJHussar@aol.com |

I'll have to take a ride out there and see if they're still hanging around. SJHussar@aol.com |
