Well - it's finally hit the newspapers. The owner of the yard property is
negotiating with a developer to create a shopping center (size unknown) that
will include Walmart. There is opposition from an adjacent boro (Wind Gap)
that benfits from a K-Mart that's been in existence for a number of years.
In addition, the local county development authority that has funded some
low-level studies aimed at bringing new business to the area claims they've
been blind-sided by the current activity. They claim their understanding was
that the businesses planned for the property would be "higher income"
businesses, not those that would provide primarily clerk-level jobs.

So.......the battle lines are being drawn. In the end, however, it appears
the one remaining major symbol of the late, great Lehigh & New Englang RR is
doomed.
