In this wonderful book by John Maxtone-Graham, there are instructions to send away for the end-papers for the ocean liner chart. I only bought this book a year and half ago and was wondering it this is still possible. Thanks for any help!

I believe an updated poster of the fates of the liners is available through the publisher. For those not familiar with this book, it is a passionate history of the TranAtlantic Ocean steamships which docked in New York. The story begins with the Kaiser's Fleet in 1900, and ends with the QE2 in 1972. It's not only a good read, but an engrossing book that reveals only too painfully, the price of progress. Anotehr book of similar stature is John Malcolm Brinnin's "The Sway of the Grand Saloon", which begins the TransAtlantic story in the 19th Century. I'd call them essential books for anyone seriously interested in the grandeur of steam.

There's another book out now on the subject called "Transatlantic" or "Transatlantic Crossing."

Another fascinating read of late is "Ship Ablaze" about the General Slocum, a New York excursion steamship which caught fire killing hundreds of mostly children on a NY harbor outing. My wife's maternal grandfather was supposed to go but was punished for some deed and got grounded at the last moment---fortunately.

Many great books are out there by authors like WH Miller and Arnold Klaudaus I mispelled his name, but are great authors of ocean liner history. I have a book comming out in a few years about the History of Norwegian America Line and Norwegian Cruise ships for which I have been working on since i was a 16 and i am 20 now.
