I heard on NPR the other morning that Hollywood is making plans to produce an epic motion picture with huge big budget glitz on the story of the building of the Transcontinental railroad. I assume it will be an adaptation of the Stephen Ambrose book on the same topic. Count on CSRM and NSRM equipment to appear, as well as the Golden Spike replicas. Can anyone shed some light on this project?

A John Woo film called "Land of Destiny" has been in development for several years. Last I heard it was being called "Men of Iron". Apparently the building of the transcontinental railroad is more or less a backdrop for the story of a Chinese immigrant working on it.

We were contacted last year about the John Woo film Men of Iron. Six months latter, we were told no go because of funding. Scott Lindsay of SOC was hired as a steam consultant for a few months.

The Internet Movie Database reports as of June 7, 2003 that the movie is classified as being "in production" and has a budget of $30,000,000. The only cast details are Nicolas Cage and Yun-Fat Chow as Gun Li. Link below:
