Just another photo of this last remaining Delaware & Hudson roundhouse. It is in good shape and used for storage. Concrete building to left is the "banana house", where reefers of bananas were once unloaded and the bunches hung. Not sure why they did that, suspect they came to Albany on the boat, then to RP for distribution, though not sure why they didn't go on to Montreal by train.

Saw this for the first time in the dead of winter when it was QUITE cold! What's left in Whitehall Bob? Someone told me the turntable is still there.

There are only a couple of buildings left at Whitehall, in very bad condition. The remainder of the roundhouse (last used for MoW vehicles) was razed about 1971-72, leaving the rectangular building that was used as the enginehouse in the last years, plus an attached brick building whose original purpose I don't know. The enginehouse has been used to store road salt for years, and the south end of the roof is now gone. The turntable was removed sometime in the late-1980s if I recall, leaving only the stone-lined pit. The passenger depot was burned as a fire practice exercise during the Guilford era. The freight shed is used for boat sales.
