http://www.forgotten-ny.com/SUBWAYS/Elvis/elvis.html<p>Dear Friends<p>This article is based on a larger site (quite well put together) that is devoted to many rail and non-rail remains that are present in New York City. While focusing primarily on Elvis Presley's journey along the LIRR to the Brooklyn Army Terminal, a recent picture of what are identified as diesel MU cars at the Terminal is included. Are these indeed diesel MU cars, or are they electric cars that have been modified for some non-rail use? The cars are not MU's at all. While they look quite similar to the LIRR Worlds Fair MU's, they are LIRR 2900 series coaches, which were diesel hauled and have generators to provide Heat/Air Conditioning and lighting.<p>The last of the fleet was retired this year, and most of the lot was bought by a private individual in PA, but two cars each have been promised to the Rail Museum of Long Island, and the Locomotive 35 Restoration Committee. <p>Roger<br> |

Indeed; that individual is Ken Bitten of the Northern Central Railway and Classic Railcars, Inc., operating on the former PRR-Northern Central line out of New Freedom, Pennsylvania.<p>Ken is very generously making one or two of the cars avaiable to the outfit I serve as a brakeman with, the Walkersville Southern in Frederick, MD.
