The Illinois Terminal substation building at Wapella was demolished this past week. Wapella is directly south of Bloomington, about five miles north of Clinton. The building had been standing unused for several years, but still seemed to be in fairly good condition. The Bloomington line was abandoned in 1953.

Fortunately, there are several other IT substations still standing. The one at Harristown, for instance, is in use as a store so is probably safe for the time being. It has the body of an IT sleeper on display next to the building.
