Great story of perseverance, the 19 year odyssey to procure the last F/FL9 for preservation. They've obviously had their eye on this piece for a long, long time as indicated by HP's excellent old photos. Patience really is a virtue!

I'm wondering if others can share similar stories of (seemingly) hopelessly drawn-out acquisitions. For me, Harry Percival's desire to obtain WW&F Ry #9 comes to mind.

It is wonderful to hear that this particular FL9 has been preserved. If there was ever a loco that I identify with the New Haven Railroad, it's this design. How many FL9's were built and how many are in the hands of preservationists, or in safe keeping today?

Well for starters here at RMNE we have 2059 and two CDOT FL-9's. Danbury Railway Museum has one CDOT and a Metro North New York Central painted one. Ct Eastern has one CDOT FL-9. Morristown and Erie has 6 former Amtrak FL-9's. The Leatherstocking Chapter NRHS (Cooperstown and Charlotte Valley) has two. The Adirondack Scenic has 4 or 6 I can't recall how many. Plus there are 6 CDOT ones still operating on Metro North. There are still a bunch stored on the Metro North system.
