Did the steam engine run around the train somewhere on the August 30 trip, or did diesals handle the return trip?

The next trip will apparently consist of the engine running around at Slateford Junction (according to Steamtown Website). Does anyone know if it will be turned, or just run around?

Hello

The steam and diesels were combined in the yard at Slateford and ran back together, I had headed back to Scranton already, but if I'm not mistaken, the diesels lead.

The scenario will likely be the same for the October trips. I would love to see a westbound steam run but I doubt we'll ever see that happen.

Regarding the quote "my kingdom for a wye" There is a wye still intact in Portland, PA, just out of reach of the Delaware-Lackawanna's 10 mile lease agreement with Norfolk Southern. The STEA directors hope to use this sometime in the future, with the Railroad's OK. For now, we will deal with a diesel westbound. By the way, DL's M636 no 3643 led the western leg of the DEWA trip on Aug 30, followed by the DL C425 no. 2461, and CP no 2317. The advantage for those in the Lehigh Valley 353 was that they could view the smokebox of the steamer the entire return to Scranton., while riding the observation platform.

I rode the Aug 30 trip. I enjoyed it and I am thankful to smell coal smoke and have cinders hit my face. I was disappointed that there were no runbys.

My suggestion to Steamtown: Originate some trips at East Stroudsburg and go to Scranton. People could spend 3-4 hours in Scranton, tour Steamtown, eat at the mall watch the engine be service and turned. Engine is now properly oriented for both legs with passengers. Captialize on tourist in Pocono resorts. Down side is dead head moves to/from East Stroudsburg.
