Just a nice photo of C&O 614 on the restored turntable at Port Jervis, NY. What RR did this turntable belong to? The Erie?

There is talk that NYS&W 142 will be using this turntable in October.

Hi guys,

I have had three weekends of rides planned (the thrid is coming up) and will do a Brief covering them all, but since the topic of #142 came up...

I rode one of the trips out of Dunellen, NJ on NJT last Sunday. It was a great family outing and very, very well run. They are back on NJT Oct. 5 & 6 on the Boonton Line.

Tickets are inexpensive and they are still available. With multiple trips each day, ride the mid-day run and photograph the sweet light morning and afternoon trips.

Good job NYS&W, NYS&WTHS and NJT!

I'm glad to see that NJT is allowing any such trips considering their past luck with getting other steam operators to pay their bills (not mentioning any names). They could have just as easily said no more.

It's funny, there are about 5 instances where the railfan community has sworn that NJT would "never allow steam again." But the truth is, they get the appeal.

When you look at the history of the agency, they have run excursions with:

Steam
BM&RDG #425
BM&RDG #2102
NKP #765
NYS&W #142
C&O #614

Diesels
URHS E-8's
URHS F-7's
NYS&W E-8's
M&E Alcos
Their own units
Conrail B-23-7's

Electrics
Their own GG-1's
Their own MU cars

And allowed numerous other units to move over thier lines.

Not too shabby for 22 years as a gov't entity!

Rob,

Many fond excursion memories in that list from someone that grew up in northeast NJ (Upper Montclair to be exact), but now lives in Western New York.

Although I don't think it was NJT (EL/NJDOT probably) in 1976, and it was not an excursion, I can fondly remember the cross-Montclair dash in my parents '65 Buick Riviera my Dad did with my sister and I (then 2 & 5 years old respectively) to see RDG2101, then AFT1, roar down the Boonton Line at Walnut Street headed toward its next destination after hearing its whistle.

They certainly have been very supportive over the years.

Until later,
Chris

P.S. Picture is BM&R 425 on NJT near Dover from around 1986 I think.

Just to "pitnick" at Rob, the E units on NYSW are E-9s, no E-8s.

;) I'll go away now.

You are right, Sir. My nit has been rightfully picked. ;-)

I was trying to recall if BR&W #60 has gone off line in the past 20 years. I know one year CPR #972 was supposed to come down for the Hoboken festival, but a few days out George decided it wasn't possible.

BRW 60 did venture off line in 1994 to visit Whippany Railway Museum and even doubleheaded with NYSW 142 but pictures are very rare from that trip. If anyone has some could you please post them as I would love to see them.

Kevin,

All I have are pics of 142 & 60 once they were at the Whippany Museum. I do not have any pics of the ferry move. It was a fun weekend, though.

I thought I had more scanned, but here are two. See the next message for 142. If you still want to see more, I am sure I can scan more up and post the URL to them.

Until later,
Chris

Kevin,

Here is one of the night shots I did at Whippany on Friday night. Drove in from Rochester straight to Whippany, spent a few hours shooting, and then went to my parents' house in Montclair.

Until later,
Chris

Here is the link for the NYS&W 142 trips to Port Jervis next month. If you go, get the Deluxe seating as coach are high density ex-LIRR coaches from hell!

I have heard rumors that another group has BIG steam plans on this line next year.
