Who is in the business of a mobile boiler/mechanic these days?

Which shop(s) can build a new boiler for a steam locomotive?

Any experiences in either area appreciated.

Jim

I didn't mean to post this photo of an diesel-electric MRS-1 with my post. While it does have a boiler, it's not the subject of my questions. Sorry.

The Strasburg Rail Road is a code shop and we can build steam locomotive boilers under the ASME code to FRA requirements.

Our family had a brand new firetube boiler made by the boilersmith in Seaforth Ontario, and while they might not be able to make a new boiler for a Big Boy, they almost certainly can make ones for small industrial, narrow guage and the like. they are coded for almost every application in North America and have their own design engineers on staff.
