Today me and my girlfriend visited the EBT for what turned out to be a delightful day. No. 14 was running three trips with a four car train (Open air boxcar, coach 8, one of the cabooses and private car "Orbisonia"). We were very kindly received by Dave Brightbill, Stanley Hall and Tom Holder. Earlier in the day the gas-electric M-1 made a short shakedown run after repairs at RTY were complete.

Patronage seems to be light. If you have an opportunity be sure to visit the EBT this season, buy a ticket, ride the train, spend some $ in the gift shop and show them your support. Every little bit counts.

You'll be glad that you did!

Kurt,

I wish I had known you were there as it would have been a pleasure to meet you. I hope that you took a walk across the street to see and ride the trolleys at the Rockhill Trolley Museum.

We have many projects underway and could also really use the support. Here is a link to some of our recent activities, including some news on the EBT gas electric car M-1 repairs, which as mentioned have just been completed by RTM volunteers this past weekend. http://www.rockhilltrolley.org/news2003.htm

Come visit the EBT and RTM and make an entire day of riding the steam train and trolleys. ItÂ’s a great way to spend the day. Plan a visit during the Fall Spectacular on October 11 & 12 when the EBT will be operating several different train consists and of course the recently repaired M-1. The Rockhill Trolley Museum will have 11 trolleys in operation or on display as well as their restored GE 25 ton diesel operating. A night train and and numerous night trolley runs are planned as well for Saturday evening.

For more information check out our website at www.rockhilltrolley.org

We hope to see you there!

Kurt,

I couldn't agree more with your comments on EBT. Unfortunately, I have to work every weekend on my job, and EBT doesn't run during the week. It is a priceless treasure, and one I hope the next generation will be able to see in action for years after I've gone to the great roundhouse in the sky.

Hope to see you again at RRMPA in the not too distant future.

EBT is a snapshot in time that has few parallels anywhere. I visited EBT for the first time last month and was overwhelmed by what is there. It's all there - a complete steam railroad with all the maint. and repair facilities along with locomotives and rolling stock.

My hat is off to those that toil there on a daily and weekly basis to stay ahead of the elements in preserving a piece of our national heritage.

It's been ten years since I did so, but I did just this and had a ball. I bought an all-day pass on the EBT and rode two of the three trains. Got some great video of #15 and the full excursion train, not to mention the open trolley, the Bullet, and the York curve side. As I was then active at the now-defucnct Penn's Landing Trolley I got to operate the York car and the Bullet after hours. If I lived a bit closer to EBT I'd probably be a FEBT volunteer, but right now I've got an overfull plate at SCRM.

So many trains, so little time (and money)...

Hi Joel,

Yes, I would have enjoyed meeting you as well. I always enjoy your postings on Rypn. We saw one of your motormen put the York Railways car away late on Sunday afternoon. That car is a gem! I was impressed with the cosmetic restoration work that RTY does--everything is bright, clean and historic. My girlfriend only wished she had taken a trolley ride (it was late in the afternoon and the last car had just departed) but I reassured her we would be back. I neglected to say that both EBT and RTY needs everyone's support. I also forgot to mention that Stanley Hall Jr. was on the EBT train crew as was Fireman Dan Gilliand. My apologies for these few oversights. RTY is definitely one of the leaders in traction preservation. We'll be sure to look you up next time were at the Broad Top. Keep up the good work.
