Well, the Susquehanna Railroad, NJ Transit and the Susquehanna Technical & Historical Society have added their third, and biggest, weekend of steam trips for 2003.

2-8-2 #142 will lead two excursions from North Jersey to Port Jervis, NY. Tickets are only $40 for mainline steam. These trips, the weekend of the 25, follow two days of runs out of Lincoln Park on 10/5&6 plus the successful trips out of Dunellen two weeks ago.

The NYS&WT&HS is "the" steam sponsor of the year in the east, combining smart destinations with familiy-freindly ticket prices.

Kudos!

Rob

If you can afford it, get the Deluxe seating as the coach seating is in the high density ex-LIRR coaches from hell!

I have heard rumors that another group has BIG steam plans on this line next year. Anyone know the details?

H, when the weather is cool, the LIRR cars are not as bad. It is a pro and con. The deluxe seats in the RDC are nice, but the windows are sealed. The LIRR cars give you a better listening positions, since the windows open.

I haven't heard this yet. There are very few "BIG" steam options...

Well, from what I heard this past week, you can pretty well expect Milwaukee 261 to run often next summer. Insurance is paid up through September 2004, they got a very satisfactory rate, and they're going to do their best to take advantage of the opportunity. Or so the folks up at Harrison Street said.

Doug,

Perhaps you are right. I heard that the City of Port Jervis was looking to have some trips originate there to take advantage of the turntable they rebuilt. I know the 261 visited Steamtown so PJ isn't that much further.
