Also from National Trust: Discussion on how best to preserve and interpret the death camp at Auschwitz, Poland. Some parallels here with preserving grungy RR maintenance buildings, though not as gruesome.

For some reason the press and historical institutions seem to ignore New Mexico. There are four more Harvey Houses in the state, three of them in good hands and well preserved -- the Belen Harvey House, Montezuma Hotel, and the very active La Fonda in Santa Fe. Gran Quivera at Clovis is the fourth.
