A sale of excess magazines and books from the museum’s library will be a feature of the annual Transportation Celebration at the Museum of Transportation in St. Louis on Oct 4 & 5, 2003. Look for the green railroad car with the “Book Sale” sign and come aboard. Magazine titles include Model Railroader, Trains, Railroad Model Craftsman, Passenger Train Journal, Locomotive & Railway Preservation, Railfan, Railroad Magazine, Railway Age, Modern Railroads, Progressive Railroads, Pacific Rail News, Live Steam, Model Builder (Lionel), and many more, some dating to the late 1930s. Classic railroad books are also available, as well as Official Railway Guides, Equipment Registers, and locomotive operating manuals. Collectors should bring their “want list” and try to complete their collections. All proceeds benefit the MOT Library. The book sale hours are 9 am – 4 pm each day. The Transportation Celebration hours are 9 - 5. Come and see the newly opened trolley car loop. Admission is free, parking $2 per vehicle. MOT Special Events rdgoldfede@aol.com |

Yeah, I read the posting before the ARM convention, but once I set foot inside the car I was stunned. EVERY magazine, every old MR, stuff I'd only read about.... all there, wall to wall. I got a two books long out of print that I'd only seen on Ebay (and couldn't afford there, either). Great job, MOT, and I dare any railroad scholar to leave that baggage car completely empty-handed. What a great fundraiser! randygustafson@stoneconsulting.com |

It has been a great way to raise funds to support the MOT library, but in all modesty we only have MR issues from about the early 1940s. We still need some from the mid to late 1930s if anyone has some that want a new home. But if you wanted Ry Signal & Communications we could have helped you out until the IRM folks got to them. Still, we have a lot of excess. We price things to move so we can convert a storage problem into supplies and share the materials with others who share our interests.
