Superheater Boiler Flues

Hello.

I wanted to poll the readers of RYPN to find out if any of you new of a reliable source for replacement Superheater Boiler Flues. I am seeking 5 1/2" OD x 3/16 x 14' in either SA-172 or SA-192.

I have contacted Anderson as well as the Boiler Tube Company of America.

If anyone has other reliabile sources, please let me know. Thanks in advance for your assistance.

Try Senior Boiler tube. They have swedging capabilities as well.

I have found that Anderson had the better prices though.

Try Karay Metals in Woodstock, NY. They list up to 5" for A179 & A192. They may be able to source 5-1/2" tubes(?)

Call Potts Welding here in Delaware. They are a major supplier of boiler tubes and seem to have everything. I have been in the boiler business for over 20 years and they have never let me down.

While there are several suppliers I have been told there are actually only twp real sources. The first is american made tubes through any one of many suppliers. These are rolled and welded and of a modern composition. The second is the German tubes through Anderson. The material composition used is closer to the "original stuff" than anything made in america, they are SEAMLESS and much cheaper than domestic tubes even after you factor in the shipping.

Stick with seamless tubing if you can afford it. It is much less like to fail and if it does fail it gives you a short defect at the angle of the piercing mill instead of a long rip down the weld.
The German mills (Krupp and Thyssen) were always our biggest competitors, way underselling USSLorain product.
