Was wondering where PM 1225 was housed since the former Ann Arbor back shop was torn down. I have seen pictures of the construction of the new turntable foundations being readied, and this article makes mention of a new facity, but no mention of where 1225 is currently being kept while this project is under way....
"After years of crumbling, the brick backshop which had housed #1225 since the early 1980s was demolished in Fall, 2000. The demolition will allow for environmental contamination remediation efforts to begin at that site, and for landlord Tuscola & Saginaw Bay Railway (TSBY) to expand their Owosso locomotive facilities. The backshop had been considered beyond salvation for several years.

A new home for #1225, a few hundred feet west, has been selected and the property is being acquired from the TSBY. Plans for the new site include a new multi-stall roundhouse and restoration facility which will feature the turntable formerly located at the ex-PM roundhouse in New Buffalo. Work has begun on turning the drawings for the new building into a real-world, three-dimensional structure."

PM 1225 is not housed anywhere at the moment, except under a tent-like structure that covers part of the 2-8-4 and the 0-4-0T. But a three-track metal shed has been ordered that will serve as a temporary shelter, to be installed over the next couple months on site adjacent to the new turntable. The 100' turntable is now complete except for track and electrics, and should be used to move the 1225 into its new shelter before this winter.

The site of the new Steam Railroading Institute is being bought from the T&SB Rwy. Co. and is on approximately the site of the former Ann Arbor roundhouse at Owosso, Michigan.

The site is still closed for construction, so only SRI staff and volunteers and T&SB Rwy. employees with identification are permitted to enter. Depending on the placement of freight cars, the engine may sometimes be seen from adjacent public streets.
