Post subject:  "Southern" Steam @ TVRM *PIC*
One additional Autumn Leaf Special has been added to the calendar at TVRM. All trips had been sold out so now is your chance: Sunday, November 2. All seating options are available including chartering business car "Eden Isle". Coach tickets are $77, Pullman Section $82, Pullman Compartment $90. All tickets include a dining car luncheon enroute to Summerville, Georgia from Chattanooga. This is a 100-mile round trip behind 2-8-0 #610. The newly-installed turntable will be used in Summerville. Tickets can be purchased via phone, mail, email, or fax.

How are you guys getting around the NS "No Steam" rule? The NYS&WT&HS trips to Port Jervis were just cancelled because they operate over a line leased from NS. My understanding is that the Chattanooga & Chickamunga shortline is also leased from NS.

TVRM operates over the Chattooga & Chickamauga Railway. The railroad itself is owned by the State of Georgia and operated under contract by C&C.

Is TVRM still running the "Downtown Arrow"? Isn't that over NS trackage?

Our operating agreement with NS that allows us to run downtown is still in effect.

What neither Mark or Steve mentioned in their posts is that the trackage area covered by our agreement with NS runs up to the point where the C&C's trackage agreement ends in Chattanooga. Thus the Autumn Leaf Specials and Downtown Arrows can operate under the agreements that each carrier has with NS, with no additional strings (such as prohibitions of friction bearing equipped cars)attached since the operations are interline, not interchange.

I realize that you are pushing the "Autumn Leaf Special", but that photo would be just a beautiful if you cropped off the upper half!

Steve: Is that a bell over the front wheel of the 610? I can't see another bell on the Consol in the photo. If it IS a bell, is that the original location on these U.S. Army locomotives?

That is indeed the 610's locomotive bell. Originally the locomotive had a yoke mounted bell on a platform that attached to the front of the smokebox inbetween the 10 and 11 o'clock position. From what photographs I have seen of the 610 and other similar USATC locomotives, I believe that that was the standard bell location on S-160 and A class locomotives. So why is the bell mounted under the front left corner of the pilot? It just happened to get put there when we restored the locomotive and was never relocated.
