I went over to the East Bay for a ride on the Niles Canyon Railway recently.

Chatting with a volunteer who told me that the Pacific Locomotive Association had moved the Western Pacific 165 out of the Alameda Farigrounds in Pleasenton under threat of scrapping because of the asbestos scare.

And it is now going to the Portola Railroad Museum as its new home. Can anybody tell me more about this third hand information?

WP 165 was the last Park display engine in the Bay Area, Everything else is either at a railroad museum or scrapped. Amazing!

The SP 0-6-0 in Martinez has not moved. Just beyond Bay Area proper are SP 0-6-0s displayed in Monterey, in Salinas (recently moved to adjacent depot), in Santa Cruz (w/o tender), and in Tracy.

I guess someone heard yesterday's request for information! When I get home tonight there was the new R&R with an article about this steam switcher. Thank you Jeff Terry!
The sky blue tires and other trim make for a strange looking locomotive for sure.

Regarding the equipment trade, one of the items that is to come to Rio Vista is switch hardware that will assist the rebuilding the long missing siding at the Garfield station of the SN. Putting it back will be good historic preservation as well as make things more flexible for the modern day museum trains.

I did not know about the engine in Martinez, will have to look for it the next time I am down that way.

And Yes I think that Santa Cruz is outside the Bay Area.

I used to visit the SP switcher in Lincoln Park, Alameda. It is now in pieces at the Golden Gate Railroad Museum at Hunters Point. Where they also have their State Belt Line apart. I hope these engines go back together some day!
