Post subject: | Rugby station is being killed as we speak |
Rugby Station was built in the mid 1890's.It is an island platform with bays at each end,and the thing that makes it unique is the roof.Supported by the the station buildings in the centre of the island, the central roof has girders about 60 foot long that span onto walls some 40 foot high and a couple of hundered feet long, each side. The remainder of the ststion is roofed in a fairly conventional way, giving cover to all the platforms for most of their 600 feet or so length.
It's big. It's amazing. They should not kill it.So far they are just knocking out the glass from the roof. They are well behind programme as the steelwork was supposed to be going by now,and they are not yet close to doing it as far as I know.
It's not listed and the council don't seem to care.Nor do English heritage.Do any of you?
hussy13@hotmail.com |
