I recently discovered through a friend that three rare vintage early 20th century era tank cars in Chalfont, Bucks County, Pa., need a good home. The cars are in reasonably good condition and are perfect pieces for a railroad museum and tourist line. Unless they are saved soon, the owner may have no choice but to scrap them. They are:

*Three-compartment tank car UTLX No. 3752, c.1925;
*Standard Brands Inc., Tank Car Division, Vinegar Tank Car (with wooden body) SBIX No. 1606, built 2/1948;
*Shippers Car Line Wine Tank Car No. 6622(used at Bear Mountain Winery in NY State) built by AC&F 8/1940

Two other tank cars from this collection were donated to Steamtown NHS (NATX No. 4753 displayed next to the Oil House) and to the Railroad Museum of Pennsylvania (AC&F No. 4556)in 1997.

Unfortunately the rest of the cars were scrapped in the late 1990s (JWCX #1886 Covered Hopper, and NATX riveted 2-compartment tank car built by AC&F in 8/1925, as well as several others) with the ends used as culverts in NY.

The former owner abandoned the cars and has not paid rent on their storage in over ten years. Although they are stored on a siding connected to a SEPTA line, they are not interchangable and would need to be trucked out. Unless they are claimed soon, they will probably be scrapped.
