At Jim Thorpe, PA, 1999. Class D-10 4-6-0. Was part of Nelson Blount's collection at Steamtown, traded/sold/whatever to George Hart for 972, the latter now dismantled at Strasburg. http://www.morscher.com/rr/1999/19990630_03.jpg ryarger@rypn.org |

Actually, George M. Hart purchased No. 1098 from the Steamtown Foundation in October 1987, just before the famous auction. Hart's No. 972 went to SRC for much needed repairs in December 1986 and after some repairs were performed, it was sold directly to SRC in late 1995--there was not a "trade/sold/or whatever" in exchange for No. 1098 that I'm aware of. No. 1098 only ran for a few weekends in October 1993 and after some repairs by another group of mechanics it was test-steamed in 1996 and in 1998. A plan is now underway to place the engine back into operating condition (it is currently stored serviceable but not yet in compliance with CFR49 Part 230). Stay tuned. > At Jim Thorpe, PA, 1999.
