The Long Island Railroad Museum site in Riveerhead, New York needs a turntable.

I just say a newsletter of the museum from 2002, talking about the purchase of a turntable near Buffalo, NY. Did they ever get it home?

Also I wonder if there was a turntable at Riverhead at some point in the past. When I lived near there it was strictly Diesel country with no turning facilities.

Not claiming this to be fact but if I recall correctly, the turntable did make it down to LI after at least one false start. There was a turntable in Riverhead a long while ago, reminents of the wall can be seen on the former lumber yard property they where given.

Yes they did in fact get a turntable....It was originally built for the GTW at Fort Erie Ont. and after an arson fire on what was left of the roundhouse, was removed for scrapping by CN. The Arcade & Attica got a hold of it, and shipped it by flat car to Arcade, where it was to be used in a new engine house development. This never materialised, and it sat in a field out behind (if i can remember correctly) a lumber mill. I was again threated with scrapping until it was saved yet again, this time by the group in Long Island. There are a couple people on here involved with that group that can tell more....
