High bridge south of Rutland, Vermont, on the old Rutland Railroad. Given up for dead when the Rutland abandoned in the 1960s, saved by Nelson Blount and the state, and saw all kinds of alive and dead steam pass over it going to and from the old Steamtown. Line is still in use as the Green Mountain RR and though Steamtown and the Rutland are long gone, the route now hauls more freight than the Rutland did for most years of its existance. Here, the luxury American Orient Express takes a turn over the bridge. http://naphotos.nerail.org/showpic/?photo=2003110609530718712.jpg&bydate%3A5 ryarger@rypn.org |
