Here is an update on the progress of rebuilding of EBT #15.

As of November 12, the following has been done to the 1914 locomotive:
The bad section of the front flue sheet has been removed and replaced. The completely remanufactured rear sheet pictured below has been welded in place. The door sheet, which contains the opening through which coal is shoveled into the fire, has been rebuilt. In addition, 200 stay bolts have been drilled out and 60 new flexy sleeves have been installed. The running gear, including connecting rods and drive rods, is approximately 60% completed. Rods and drivers have been rebshed, the tram lined up and equalization repined and rebushed as needed. General Manager Stanley Hall estimates restoration of EBT #15 to be about 55% complete.

When will the 14 be grounded for restoration? I hear she is near the end of her servicable days and 15 will take over when this happens.

Just picked up a copy of Blue Ridge Video's DVD on the EBT's photo freights in January. I noticed that the 14's tender seemed to slant forward -- the front seemed lower than the back. Was this an optical delusion?

I seem to recall something on the EBT list about 14 getting 15's tender this season. Could this slanting be the reason?

#14's tender was in dire need of repair. Both (archbar) trucks were pretty much junk. Both have been rebuilt as well as a rebuilt end sill.

Nothing official has been released about #14's operating status but in all hopes, #15 will start off the 2004 season.
