Post subject:  End-O-Lone getting 1876 Baldwin
Just saw today that it has been confirmed that Minnesota's End-O-Line park is getting the 3' foot 1876 Badlwin from the defunct Prairie Expo Center. She's been inside there, hope that care continues.

I fervently hope they don't do to it what they have done with Georgia Northern 102. Shudder

Considering the rather incomplete kit of parts they had to start with, they actually did a reasonably good job with that ten-wheeler. At least this little Baldwin 2-6-0 comes ready to display right out of the box.

Below is the "before" shot and a link to the "after" shot of the Georgia Northern engine from steamlocomotive.com. Looks like the photo on steamlocomotive.info falls somewhere in between.

Could you elaborate about what makes you 'shudder.' From what I have seen from the low-resolution pictures on their website it does not look too bad, but looks can be deceptive.

I think my reaction was badly exaggerated and for that I apologize. Richard Jenkins is right, considering what they had to start with, they did a pretty good job.

OK, maybe she does have new paint, but you can't just take a Southern girl to Minnesota and leave her outside to shiver in the cold all 10 months of winter without even the small pleasure of sweet tea in the brief and fleeting summer days for comfort.........and the language? Poor thing must be completely confused.

Even Garrison Kiellor tours the South in the winter.

I didn't know you were such a gentleman, Dave!

Keillor brought his show to Birmingham, AL in mid-March, 1992 - it snowed 16" the night before the show and the entire city was shut down. We blamed it on him . . .

Post subject:  Baldwin way,WAY southern
Heck, I didn't know there were any Yankees left up North to keep any engines as I thought they were all now living in Plano, Texas.

This old girl will really have the chills, seeing as it is a South American machine. i just hope they put it under cover. Snow and road salt will get to machinery quick, you betcha!

Does this engine still have the set up where part of the tender weight rests on the back of locomotive frame? It was a Baldwin set up to spread axle loading weight , I believe.
