Yesterday I took a brief side trip off I-81 and into Hagerstown, MD to try to hunt down a locomotive I never knew existed until a few days ago: Western Maryland 4-6-2 # 202 and tender. What a find! Not only does she exist. Even more, she looks much like she must have appeared near the end of her service life: a bit on the sooty/grimy side but with the good overall patina of hard-working, mainline-service steam engine. In this month in which we are encouraged to celebrate things for which we are thankful, what has been or is YOUR special find? prov356@uplink.net |

Where at in Hagerstown is this locomotive found? I'd like to have a look. |

Find the park, and follow the signs; they will point you to 202, which is in a far-off corner of the park. However, the area the Pacific is in (which includes several cabooses) is securely fenced off to protect the loco/cabooses from vandals. The fenced area is open on occasion on weekends; you will find photography of the Pacific (which is, thankfully, under a roof) trying at best and impossible at worst.
