A visit to the NCTM website leaves me wondering if the ACL 501 i saw at the Tampa station in 1963 was the same one that's in the NCTM. The one on the website appears to be more streamlined. The 501 i saw was 2nd unit behind 515 (I think) on a train that pulled in during a torrential downpour.

Also, the numbers of Southern Ry. F-units 6141, 6147, 6133 and 6138, or maybe just two of the units, were changed to (94xx??) and I dont recall the year but it was after 1980. If anyone can fill in those missing blanks, I would appreciate it muchly, as I'm trying to correctly caption some photos.

Don't know the answer to your 501 question, but it sounds quite possible.

The 6133 was cut out of the pack of FP7s in 1980 and sent to Spencer. One of her last duties was sucking up cinders behind CP Royal Hudson 2839 on excursions.

The four that were left, 6138, 6141, 6143 and 6147 were renumbered in fall 1983 to 3496, 3497, 3498 and 3499. Hope that helps.

Outside of steam, I really dig cab units so having the 6133 and 501 and 6900 around is a real treat. Incidentally, the match for the T-21 grant to rebuild 6133 is still in need of funds (I think we still need about $8k on a match of about $25k) so if there are any cab unit or SR fans out there who would like to see that unit looking good and running good for another 40 years, here's your chance to play a part. Hey Jimbo - One of our members, who is an electrical engineer for the local government owned power utility, has recreated in Autocad the electrical schematics for our SRR E8 #6914. I would be the drawings will match your 6901 as well. Anyone there at NCTM have access to Autocad 2001?

The 6914 will be in our shop this winter receiving electrical and air brake upgrades that should finally make it roadworthy. Sitting alongside the 630, we'll be working hard to have both of these beasts out on the road sometime next year. The 630 will reach the century mark next year so a big celebration will be in order.

After a few years those numbers begin to run together. I, too, have a soft spot in my heart for cab units, but my memories of those are NC&StL and L&N mostly.
