Post subject:  U.P. 4-8-4's
The new "Steam Glory" mag has an article about U.P. 4-8-4's, which states that the first of these locos were assigned some long runs, the longest of which was from Omaha to Huntington, Ore, a distance of 1394 miles. As I read the piece, it is saying that this occurred in the engines' early years, when they were coal-burners. Is this correct? I had always understood the longest coal-fired run without change to have been N.P.'s Twin Cities to Livingstone, MT, trek, which was about 1,000 miles. Hard to believe these "Little 800's" could have gone 1400 miles without change, esp. minus the more sophisticated lube systems with which the later, larger 800's were equipped. Anyone have info on this? Thanks.

Never heard of it(Magazine)

Special Edition from Kalmbach. I sent my $7 in May when it was first advertised. Later saw small print that said "Will ship in November." Got mine last week and have not had a chance to go into detail, but skimming, it looks like a classic keeper.

Was glad to see mine in the mail this week. A well overdue article but well worth the wait. If any of you get the chance to look at it, its fantastic! (of course this is coming from someone who didn't even get to live through the steam era) Anyhow, it is really good, the articles on the Challengers and the N&W articulateds are great.

I would highly recommend to anyone who likes steam. I was somewhat disappointed to see so many pages devoted to C&O boats, but nonetheless, it is an excellent issue.
There ain't a whole lot out there any more for us old steam fogies.

Thanks for the response guys...I had forgotten about this issue, as the Kalmbach ad guys tried to get me to advertise in it, and I simply didn't get around to it, and with the bucks I spent on Trains for two months, just as well I suppose. These guys always get all the Profits, meager as they are :)!!

By the way we released a vintage film that was shot by my father in the 50's if there are any D&RGW fans here. Image below. I hope to release one of his vintage programs per year. There is more to railway preservation than whats on display at a museum!

Well Greg, if you get a copy of Steam Glory ( I saw them at Borders Book Store in Tampa last night), I hope you'll take a look at the back cover. It cost me a bundle! LOL

I bet....I remember M.Y. quoting me prices, and I opted to go with TRAINS ads first, and never got back to them about this one time shot magazine. I'll check it out at Borders in a couple of weeks, as my daughter and I usually stop there during our Christmas shopping outing.
I hope the ad pays for itself Jim, and then some.
Gee you and I are becoming the "old heads" of the video business these days, with a few exceptions.
