In some old photos of Valley Railroad in CT. there is a structure in the background thatlooks like a couple of silos or storage tanks. What are they and are they still there? Thanks in advance, -Alan Levy alanl759@aol.com |

The silos were from a coal yard located there in Essex. It was torn down in 1977 or 78. The pit for loading the silo is now the locomotive inspection pit. Hope this helps.... drotarinoh@webtv.net |

And, some of the best lumber (nice full-dimension yellow pine) was used in the early 80s for the re-siding one of RMNE's 1930 Boston & Maine outside-braced boxcars. We're "thrifty New Englanders", you know (not "cheap Yankees"). hpincus@mindspring.com |

Thanks for the info! I haven't been to Valley Railroad in a while. I forget, is the locomotive inspection pit inside the enginehouse? Also, when I was last there the enginehouse was a single track building. Is that still the case? -Alan Levy alanl759@aol.com |

The engine house will hold 2 cars or 2 locos if the tender is removed from one of them. It is single track. regards bb |

The Valley shop is 30'X180'. It will hold both steam locomotives with their tenders with room to spare. There is a rather primitive drop pit inside the building as well as the inspection pit outside. jdconrad@snet.net |
