In some old photos of Valley Railroad in CT. there is a structure in the background thatlooks like a couple of silos or storage tanks. What are they and are they still there?

Thanks in advance,

The silos were from a coal yard located there in Essex. It was torn down in 1977 or 78. The pit for loading the silo is now the locomotive inspection pit. Hope this helps....

And, some of the best lumber (nice full-dimension yellow pine) was used in the early 80s for the re-siding one of RMNE's 1930 Boston & Maine outside-braced boxcars. We're "thrifty New Englanders", you know (not "cheap Yankees").

Thanks for the info!

I haven't been to Valley Railroad in a while. I forget, is the locomotive inspection pit inside the enginehouse? Also, when I was last there the enginehouse was a single track building. Is that still the case?

The Valley shop is 30'X180'. It will hold both steam locomotives with their tenders with room to spare. There is a rather primitive drop pit inside the building as well as the inspection pit outside.
