Nigel Day of Wales, who has installed improved exhaust systems and his own oil firing system on several steam locomotives in the UK, has recently been working at Mt. Washington. Read more about it at Martyn Bane's webpage at the link below. Good Steaming, Hugh Odom The Ultimate Steam Page http://www.trainweb.org/tusp Nigel Day at Mt. Washington whodom2001@yahoo.com |

Hugh, Thanks for the link. It's ironic that the highest tech front end in the States is on one of the lowest tech locomotives. Hopefully the modifications will keep the cog burning coal for many years to come. Glad you enjoyed the link. The Mt. Washington engines are a strange mixture of modern and ancient: all-welded boilers, 4 piston valve cylinders, but non-adjustable cut-off, no apparent insulation on any of the steam piping or cylinders, etc. I believe Nigel can accomplish a great deal there if he is given the chance. You can read more about Nigel's previous steam locomotive modernization jobs in the UK at the link below: Regards, Hugh > Hugh, > Thanks for the link.
